Rice Day for So They Can

The So They Can organisation supports communities to prevent poverty. Their aim is to make communities self-sufficient through key focus areas, such as education and building the local economy through micro finance and social business. The organisation is currently working in Nakuru, Kenya with internally displaced persons, forced to leave their homes due to intertribal violence.

There are five major So They Can initiatives in this area – Aberdare Ranges Primary School, Holding Hands Children’s Home, Micro Finance Business School, Community Medical Centre and Model Farm.

The Melbourne office recently hosted a themed lunch to raise funds for Primary School Education students at the University Of Notre Dame (Sydney) to volunteer at the Aberdare Primary School in Kenya later this year. Each of the students has to raise funds before the trip with the goal of raising enough money to build a new classroom for the school.

The Melbourne lunch theme was Rice and thanks to Glenn, Caitlin and Asim, there were three delicious rice dishes for lunch. Glenn’s paella was especially a hit.

A great lunch was had by all participants and the donations were generous; hopefully in some small way assisting the So They Can organisation and the children at the Aberdare Ranges Primary School in Kenya.
