Grahame Grieve – Winner of the 2009 Don Walker Award
Kestral is pleased to announce that our own Grahame Grieve is the 2009 recipient of the HISA Don Walker Award for Effectiveness.
Named for the trailblazing Dr Don Walker who has been a major and dedicated contributor to health informatics and the use of IT in Australian health care for decades, the award recognises work which has improved patient outcomes through the use of innovative technological solutions.
Grahame was honoured to be personally nominated for the award by Dr Vincent McCauley (MB BS, Ph.D) for his development of a set of common datatypes across the major international eHealth standards communities (HL7, ISO, CEN). Grahame was the major author of that work and subsequently developed and refined the datatype specifications in consultation with HL7 International and ISO.
Dr McCauley submitted to HISA that,
“Grahame has represented Australia in International Standards Forums for more than a decade in numerous leadership positions and has helped establish Australia as a major participant at HL7 International and more recently ISO TC 215.”
Likening Grahame’s ability to combine technical ability and consensus building across divergent communities to “creating the Philosopher’s Stone for eHealth”, Dr McCauley stated he could think of no more worthy a recipient.
Kestral’s affiliation with HL7 International has helped us to expand and integrate our products through increasingly beneficial applications for our current and future customers. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Grahame Grieve on this outstanding recognition of his tireless dedication to the growth of IT in health care for Australia.
