CASE STUDY:

Integral Diagnostics New
Zealand: Transforming
Radiology by Karisma

Integral Diagnostics New Zealand (IDX NZ) set out to unify its operations under a single Radiology Information System. Partnering with Kestral, IDX NZ implemented Karisma as its enterprise RIS platform across 21 sites spanning 4 brands, delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, consistency, and data management.

Problem

After multiple acquisitions, IDX NZ was running disparate RIS systems across 4 brands and 21 sites. This led to inconsistent workflows, fragmented data, and limited collaboration between teams. To maintain high-quality diagnostics and improve efficiency across a network of this scale, IDX NZ needed a single, unified RIS that could support every site consistently.

Approach

IDX NZ chose Karisma to unify its RIS across all 4 brands. The migration involved moving Trinity MRI and Horizon Radiology to Karisma V4, and transitioning SRG and Astra Radiology from other systems entirely. Integration with existing platforms ensured a seamless, interoperable environment across all 21 sites.

Solution

The implementation was a joint effort between IDX NZ and Kestral, designed to meet clinical, operational, and administrative goals across every brand and site. Key elements included:
  • Workflow analysis to guide improvements and smooth transitions across 21 sites
  • Staff training to support adoption and confidence across all 4 brands
  • Integration with PACS, analytics, and reporting systems
  • Configuration to align codes, services, and invoicing processes network-wide

Results

Since adopting Karisma, IDX NZ has achieved:
  • A single, unified RIS replacing disparate systems across 4 brands and 21 sites
  • Improved workflow consistency across the entire network
  • Centralised reporting and analytics spanning all sites
  • Reduced administrative overhead from aligned codes, services, and invoicing across brands

Analysis

By consolidating disparate RIS systems across 4 brands and 21 sites into one platform, IDX NZ resolved the workflow inconsistencies and data silos created by its acquisitions. The scale of the rollout makes this one of the largest RIS unification projects in the region, giving every practice in the network the same platform, the same worklists, and the same reporting standards.
Karisma unified IDX NZ’s radiology operations across 4 brands and 21 sites, replacing disparate systems with a single, scalable RIS. The migration gives every site the same workflows, the same data standards, and a platform built to support continued growth.
