What is Karisma Report Distribution?
Karisma Report Distribution delivers finalised radiology reports to referring clinicians in HTML format, preserving the full formatting of the report as the radiologist intended it. Unlike HL7 report delivery, which strips formatting and sends plain text, HTML reports retain tables, subscripts, superscripts and structured layout, so referrers receive a properly presented clinical document rather than unformatted text.
What is the difference between HTML report delivery and HL7 report delivery?
HL7 is the traditional standard for sending radiology reports between systems, but it does not carry formatting. Reports arrive as plain text with no tables, no subscripts, no superscripts and no visual structure. HTML report delivery preserves all formatting. The result is a referrer receives a report looks exactly as it was written, with the clinical structure and presentation the radiologist intended intact.
Can practices brand their reports through Karisma Report Distribution?
Karisma Report Distribution allows practices to add their own branding to HTML reports delivered to referrers. Branded reports present a consistent, professional identity to the referring clinician community and differentiate the practice from competitors still sending plain-text HL7 reports. Branding is configured within Karisma and applies consistently across all reports delivered through the distribution system.
Can a link be added to reports delivered through Karisma Report Distribution?
Karisma Report Distribution supports adding a custom URL link to HTML reports. Practices can link to whatever destination they choose, though most use this to provide referrers with access to associated imaging through their PACS provider. Enabling the link requires the PACS or destination provider to support it at their end, which may involve an additional cost with that provider. Kestral manages the link configuration within Karisma.
How does Karisma Report Distribution handle referrers who use different practice management software?
Karisma Report Distribution is designed to work regardless of what software the receiving referrer uses. Reports are delivered primarily via HL7 messaging to EDI or Healthlink mailboxes which means there is no requirement for referrers to have compatible software, a shared portal login or any specific technical setup on their end. This makes Karisma Report Distribution suitable for practices with large and diverse referrer networks across Australia and New Zealand.
What are the referrer experience benefits of HTML report delivery?
Referrers receiving HTML reports get a properly formatted clinical document with the structure, layout and visual presentation the radiologist intended. Subscripts, superscripts and tables arrive intact rather than collapsed into plain text. Where a URL link is included, referrers can access associated imaging in one click without logging into a separate system. The overall experience is more professional and clinically useful than plain-text HL7 delivery.
