The Australian Government has confirmed that from July 2026, healthcare providers will be required to upload pathology and diagnostic imaging reports to My Health Record by default.
The change is part of the Modernising My Health Record reforms and is enshrined in the Health Legislation Amendment (Modernising My Health Record, Sharing by Default) Act 2025.

A few key dates for radiology practices:
February 2026: limb X-ray reports become viewable in My Health Record immediately after upload. Other imaging reports including CT, MRI, PET, ultrasound, and X-rays of the head and torso move to a five-day delay, reduced from seven.
March 2026: applications open for providers who need additional time to comply.
July 2026: mandatory upload-by-default commences. Medicare benefit payments become contingent on compliance.
Limited exceptions apply, including technical issues outside the provider’s control, patient requests for non-upload, and safety concerns.
